At least six people have been killed and power was cut at Europe's largest nuclear plant after Russia fired missiles through Ukraine.
The attacks hit cities from Kharkiv in the north to Odessa in the south and Zhytomyr in the west. Buildings and infrastructure were damaged in Kharkiv. and Odessa, with power outages in several regions. There were also reports of strikes in the capital Kiev.
Ukraine said Russia had launched 81 missiles, the biggest attack in weeks. The Ukrainian military said it had managed to shoot down 34 cruise missiles and down four of eight Iranian-made drones. .
This comes as bitter fighting continues in the eastern city of Bakhmut.
There are emergency services in kyiv at the site of the explosions in the western and southern districts of the capital, where Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the explosions.
Klitschko said cars were burning in the courtyard of an apartment building and urged people to stay in shelters. He added that many of the city's neighborhoods were without power, as four out of ten were without power.
Its governor, Maxim Marchenko, said a missile attack targeted a power facility in the port city of Odessa, causing power outages. He added that residential areas were also affected, but no injuries were reported.
