Doing housework, especially cleaning the kitchen, may be one of the chores that many women tend to put off, but did you know that it may help you get rid of some extra pounds?
Cleaning the kitchen for 50 minutes burns more calories than dancing, riding a bike, or even cleaning another room for the same amount of time.
Cleaning the kitchen burns an average of 276 calories, while cleaning the bathroom only 173 calories, and the bedroom only 154.
Dancing burns 219 calories, while riding a bicycle for an hour burns 292 calories.
On the other hand, Professor Amanda Daly, Professor of Behavioral Medicine at Loughborough University, commented on the study carried out by the US cleaning service Homeaglow, stressing that housework "can get your heart pumping".
But they don't really help you lose weight, as they often use a small number of muscles.
So Jo Mitton, a Cambridgeshire-based personal trainer, suggested: "Instead of bending over to clean something up, you can do squats."
